Clear coating, tips and max number of coats?

Question:
How do I prevent orange peel, and get the best, smoothest finish possible?
I've heard of color sanding, and people putting on a clear and wet-sanding between each coat of clear, up to 10 coats.
How do I get a super glossy show car finish, with definite depth?
Thanks

If you are using a urethane clear, you don't want more that 2-3 coats. How it comes out depends on your spraying skills. You want to work your way around the car with one light coat, then follow up with 1-2 wet coats.
Don't try to put too much on at once; it should look a little too dry at first, but will flow after 1-2 minutes. Too dry, and you get orange peel, too wet, and you get drips. You can lay it heavier on the roof/top surfaces than the sides. On your last coat, you may want to open the hood or a door, so you don't have to finish in the middle of a panel. Start off light. It may look ok at first, but after you work your way around for the next coat, you may find huge drips. So go light, it takes a few hours for clear to tack up, so each coat you put on makes it wetter, and more likely to drip. If you can get the paint to lay out well enough, you can avoid hours of sanding and polishing.

I pooped in my car. How do I get the smell out?

BFH gave good advise, however, to avoid problems be sure to take a tack cloth the areas you did not spray before you spray them. Over spray will also give you "orange peel" because the material will drift down onto the lower surfaces. Start from the top and work you way to the bottom of the car. Be sure to tack the sides, trunk lid, and hood after the first spray on the roof. Keep working in this fashion until it is done. Pay attention to re-coat times on the label of the product. These are important, in that you will loose adhesion between coats should they be exceeded excessively. Should you exceed re-coat times between coats, wait until thoroughly dry, then wet sand with about 1,000 to 2,000 grit wet/dry sand paper. Wipe dry and apply coat of clear coat. The sanding will restore the adhesion properties.
