Supercharger replacement cost?

Question:
1998 grand prix gtp 93000 miles. the rear rotor bearings in my eaton m90 supercharger are grinding quite a bit and the dealership told me i needed a whole new supercharger, quoted at $1971 (with labor) isnt it possible to just replace the bearings? if so can anyone recommend a shop in the twin cities area. or perhaps a shop that would replace the whole unit for less money

How long would it take till the sugar kills the engine?

Man...I can save you tons of money. With that many miles on your application you do not want to just replace the noise or the coupler. Replacing the whole supercharger will be the best way to go. Now the dealership is trying to sell you on a new unit or maybe even a rebuilt one and they are jacking up the price. I would check out a rebuilt supercharger, which for your application will cost $439.00 and thats including gaskets. With shipping you might be looking around $500.00 out the door. The good thing about these rebuilds is that they offer a lifetime warranty where the dealership most likely will not offer this, so in my opinion it's a no brainer in which way to go. Now once you get your hands on a rebuilt supercharger you can go to any ASE certified mechanic. Usually they will charge around 2-3 hours for labor which will cost around $100-$300. You can even take the rebuilt supercharger to the dealer and they can install it for you. Just call them to ask what the labor time will be to install it. Or you can even install it yourself since it is pretty straight forward. The rebuild units usually will come with full install instructions. This will save you a pretty penny if you tackle it yourself.

It is not suggest that you replace the bearing by yourself...especially since some of the parts are impossible to find like the seals.

But look into a rebuilt unit and since it comes with a lifetime warranty...you cannot beat that deal. In the long run it will save you tons of money. Check out my source so you can read up on the rebuilts. I can assure you its the best way to go.

Sorry, I don't know anyone in your area, but I do know a bit about that charger. How do you know its the rear rotor bearings? Do you have an ungodly rattle at idle and low speed that sounds like the entire unit is ready to come apart? Its very common for the coupler to go bad, and its easy to replace. It does involve removal of the unit, only because of the clearance required to remove the drive snout from the case. Here's how to check..with the engine and drive belt off, grab the charger pulley and rotate it back and forth a few degrees very quickly. If you feel any play at all, the coupler is bad. No big deal, you can still drive it until you get the new coupler and some time to put it on. Then, rotate the pulley a few rotations in each direction nice and smoothly. If you feel any roughness, even at only one spot, then the whole unit needs to come apart and be inspected. Drive as little as possible to avoid debris being sent into the motor. Oh, and if you change the coupler, be extremely careful when opening the case or draining out the old oil. It is the absolute worst smelling fluid on this planet. Wow. Its a natural ester oil, and you will never forget the smell. Try the link for additional info.

2007 camry ce alarm with keyless entry?

Most of the time the supercharger gets a rattling noise in the front nose cone. I have replaced a part in there before and it did get rid of the noise. As far as bearings, I have no idea. Not sure where you would get the parts. The kit, I bought on Ebay for about $50. Seems like i saw a few supershargers on there for sell. You might give that a try.
