can i change my fiat uno engine with a japanese brand engine?

I think it's crap that these places way overcharge on parts (this one part is marked up at least 100% from the price I have!)

Will a supercharger shorten the life of an engine?

You might be able to buy the parts yourself and then take it to a shop to have it installed, but then they will most likely charge more for other things to compensate for the lose you have created for them.

RAV4 1998, engine light is on, what is going on...?

Be cool about things, if your not happy with the price from one place try another. You already know if they are screwing you by knowing the part price.

What oil should I put in a 2005 Cavalier. And other maintnence?

You may find one, but they won't guarantee the part. If you say, purchase a water pump, they install it and it's defective, they still want their labor money and you're back to square one. That's why there is a small markup on parts

car wont start?

I hear the pain. Some shops let you do that but it would probably not be one of those chain places. Check with smaller shops.

Is it legal to have rear white signal?

You are 'allowed' to do anything you like to your own car, however, you will never find a shop dumb enough to let you do this. Do you ever bring your own food to a restaurant? Do you have any idea how much coffee is marked-up?

what i the most likely problem when car does not start when battery is fine and every thing totaly dead?

Some repair shops will allow you to bring in you own parts but most of them will charge more for their labor.
The reason they charge more for their labor is because they are not making any money from the parts that you brought them.

I am looking for an impact wrench that will remove lug nuts . Is there a working torgue value that is best?

Most shops will let you buy the parts and then just charge you for the labor, but they might charge you a little more on labor to make up for a little bit of the parts difference that they would have gotten. If you go to an HONEST mechanic, they'll treat you right either way. Just ask them up front if they will let you buy the parts and how much labor will be ~ so you'll have no surprises when you go to pick up your vehicle. ~ ♥ Tracy

fuel pump relay for 1987 Honda Accord-fuel injected 4 cylinder . Where is it located on the car?

i mechanic for a living, and i allow customers to do this,i only do a 10% mark up this covers time and gas to go get them but most shops do go from 50-75% mark up,,but they should allow you to do this,,but all they,ll do is take longer to put them on,,so either way their going to get you ,i try and treat my customers good,i guess that's why i have had a good business for 36 yrs,but all shops are different, good luck hope this help,s.happy new years.

My car shifts at low gears, is there something I can buy to bypass the ecu?

If you have a "shade tree" mechanic, he might work just for labor. Most professionals require that they supply parts with the labor.
How about this senerio? You just bought some very nice sirloin steaks but don't want to cook, so you take them into your favorite restaurant and present them to your waitress. It's the same with auto parts. You buy... you install.

my renault traffic 140 dci as bad starting?

I work in a shop, Some shops will let you do this, but the shop I'm at won't, its not becasue the shop is wanting to make more money, its becasue of warranty issues. Lets say if you buy a part and the shop installes it. and the part brakes, should the shop have to come clean for the labour to reinstall it, no. it wasn't thier part, but lets say that part brakes and causes damage to the engine, should the shop have to come clean for the labour and damage costs? No. There is just too much error in customer supplied parts. Yes shops mark up prices, thats to cover for warranty of parts. were you compairing the exact same part, same part number with the same company? if not you were compairing apples to oranges. some shops, the shop i'm at, we use the best part we can buy withen reason, yet all the customers coming in wanting us to install their own part buy the cheap pos parts that will fail in a few weeks. There is just too much liability in installing a part that the shop did not supply.

whats the definition of emergency maintenance?

The junk you buy from AUTOZONE is not the same as the parts they get from NAPA or similar vendors.
