Question:
I have an 88 pontiac sunbird convt and the right front window is not grounding out properly to roll down but it will roll up. I thought it was the motor so I took it out and noticed the gear rolled one way but not the other so I took it to my mechanic he said motor works but its not grounding out so it works one way so he replaced both door switches but still won't roll down so I thought I'd try to fix it myself. I have a digital volt meter but don't know how to use it to check for bad ground. My mechanic said when he grounded it out it rolled down that both wires on the motor are positive and when you press the switch it grounds out one wire to roll down and vice versa.
Answers:
transmision slipping , check engine light comes on, high idle?
So, point being, the wires between the motor and switch are bad somewhere.
If it was a bad ground it would happen both ways. And you had mentioned that it only occured in one of the directions.
how do you adjust the gearshift 4 a manual trans 96 escort.it has excessive play?
Oh, use the ohm meter part of the multitester to check for polarity on the lines by disconnecting the wire connectors at each end of the circuit ( motor and switch ) . Put one multitester lead on each end of the wire connectors , for each wire and check to see if one has infinite resistance, meaning there is no connection or maybe high resistance compared to the others, all the rest should have No or little resistance if they are good.
I cant figure it out, G.M. experts HELP!!?
Good luck :-)
The wire that is coming from the connector where the switch is, opposite the one that controls the down circuit has failed. Usually the center wire or pin is the ground, the one on each other side of the switch controls whatever, up or down. So put the switch back on the connector, with it off the dor panel and check to see which side has power to it when you put it down and then you will know which one is which.

Good Luck again !
I have seen on these types of window problems that there is usually a broken wire in the harness that run's from the body to the door....that thick rubber looking thing between the door and body has the harness in it. Check it out.
