is your f150 a diesel?.if it is it wont have plugs.but if its a gas plugs will be on the left and right side of the motor.is it v6,v8,inline6.?only diesel engines do not have spark plugs.they are there or else it would not run. gas engines have to have spark to ignite inside of the cylinder.distributor caps and wires on a ford are in front of the motor and drap backwards whereas chevy's are in the back and run forward, look between the exhaust manifold (just below the head)you'll see them.and yes you can do this at home you need what is called a feeler gauge to set your correct spark for the motor you have.the spark setting will be on the box the plugs come in.

Replacedintake manifold antifreeze in sparkplug hole.car is missfiring?

Sounds more like you have a fuel injection system, no plugs...

Is it possible to tighten down a heat shield or do you have to replace?

check the owners manual under maintenance..or get a mechanic to do the problem
