Question:
Hello,
Is there a special timing belt tensioner tool when changing the timing belt on a 1998 3.0 Acura CL?
I am having very poor gas mileage in my 1997 Ford F-150 V6 4.2L. Around 9 or 10 miles per gallon and I drive about 50-60% highway. I believe I used to get 16-17mpg.
Symptoms:
-Occasionally barely noticeable rough idle,
-occassionally starts, runs rough for a few seconds and stalls but then starts right back up

Sounds like your timing may be off. Have it checked. Also possibly clogged fuel filter.Where can i find a diagram of the engine in a 1997 ford f150 xlt 4x4 4.2 liter?
take it down and have your trusted mechanic put it on the machine. Poking and hoping with guess work wont fix an issue if it's a sensor that is malfunctioning. Such as a mass air flow sensor, map sensor, 02 sensor. The list goes on.What are the signs of a cracked engine block?
That might improve it a few miles per gallon. Something is telling the computer to run rich. How is the catalytic converter? does the exhaust sound as it should?
I had the same truck and motor and it got excellent mileage but at one point had a problem like yours. When it is properly tuned and all is working the other problem may be your intake gasket, if it is leaking it will only get worse and truck will not run good at all!
Sorry, I don't know ... but I do know this, if you would Test our ECO Fuel Saver/Enhancer/Additive with your vehicle, then you would likely get the power improvement that you lack, AND increase mileage by 13+% after the 1st 2 or 3 additions to the gas (14 oz. bottle / 1 oz addition per 15 gals./60 liters (1:2000 ratio) NEW - Ultimate ME2 - EPA and CARB standards approved for emissions - reduced to almost ZERO - and improved mileage, more power, reduced maintenance, increased engine life - saving you about $6.00 per fill-up. Your concerns are : increase mileage/ reduce the cost at the Pump - and particularly important with the prices the waw they are. Thanks for listening!
Two main things can cut mileage that much. A clogged cat, which a muffler shop can detect with a before and after cat pressure check, and a bad fuel pressure regulator. The diaphragm in the regulator leaks and the vacuum line sucks a ton of gas into the intake manifold. You can usually tell just by pulling the vacuum line off the regulator and seeing if there's gas in it.
