Question:
My antifreeze gets used up really fast somehow, and I have not been checking it. So, I just noticed my temperature gauge was going up too high in the Hot, so I checked my antifreeze and the reservoir was empty. Who knows how long it has been like this, but I want to know how bad this is for my far and what the damage is. Anything you can tell me will be helpful. Thanks!

2. This 3.8 is famous for blowing head gaskets, no overheat needed. Ford has been denying it for decades but eventually was forced to extend warranty for '93 and '94 claiming that other years did not have the same proble. Well, a lying ford - what can be more common...
In any case, overheating is a bad thing for the engine. Depending of severity, here is the order of damage:
1. Head gaskets
2. Warped heads
3. Collapsed piston rings
4. Scored cylinders/pistons
Any of the above will cost more to repair than the value of the vehicle. BTW, the last one is definitely associated with new engine.
I'm looking for a threaded linkage (M/F) that swivels. What is this called and where can I find it?
thats bad! always keep the coolant level up on your car. you can over heat the engine and blow a head gasket or warp the head. if it gets cold and freezes you can crack the block if you have no A/F in there. also the water pump needs lube and it gets it from the anit freeze.Trying to remove and replace bulb ..bulb to wide to remove from housing in audi 99 low beam??
you can warp your head or seize your engine! you need to find the leak and have it repaired...hope it's not a blown head gasket.that will cost you hundreds...left undone it could cost you thousandswell you really need to get antifreeze in there, check and see if you have a leak or something.
and if you are driving it without any antifreeze then you could be doing alot of damage to your car..especailly over heating the car/motor...
i would defiantely get that checked ASAP!
and keep puttin antifreeze in it from now on.
but if you wait and get it checked out from someone or a garage, it could get expensive buying the antifreeze all the time, so i would hurry.
good luck! hope your cars okay!
How do i change the colour of my car"s dashboard to look woodish (colour of mahogony)?
Your overflow tank, which is what you see as empty is half the problem, your either leaking or have a bad head gasket. If its the latter, bigger problem. If your engine is getting that hot, you need to add some ASAP. If your in an area where its not freezing for the summer, add water, preferably distilled, but any water will be better than none. If your getting that hot, you can eventually cause it to steam, seize the engine and or warp the heads. Have a mechanic look at it to find the source of your fluid lossDoes anyone know how to install seat belts for a toyota tercel 1996?

If you are losing coolant, you have a leak.If you have been driving with no coolant you risk massive internal damage to the engine. Knowing what kind of car you have would help, but there are some things that are universal.
If you have a liquid cooled engine (and you do if you have a radiator) you MUST have coolant in the system. Loss of coolant will make all the metal parts expand and things break.
The most common problem is a cracked head. Once this happens, a car is basically undriveable.
You really need to fix the leak first, and then have your mechanic find out if you have caused any more damage.
if it gets too hot,it can warp the heads and blow the gaskets.anti-freeze isnt just to keep the car from freezing, but its also a coolant.

WELL IF YOUR CAR GETS TOO HOT YOU CAN EVENTUALLY BLOW IT UP...BUT YOU CAN ALSO DAMAGE GASKES CAUSING IT TO LEAK SMOKE OR RUN LIKE CRAP. WHAT IS IT DOING, ANYTHING DIFFERENT?All 4 windows on my '86 560 SEC Mercedes quit at once?
very badif you live in a climate where it can still freeze
your block can crack
forcing you to get a new engine
and if it gets to hot
it can overheat faster
making your block crack
it also lubricates and prevents corrosion of your cooling system
if you are lucky, the leak is just from the plastic reservoir, the engine block must still have antifreeze in it. Look where the leak comes from. or it may even be a rubber pipe at a join.
I will give 10 points to the person who answers this...?
Cars are quite tolerant to running hot, the engine oil has a cooling effect. One way to cool the engine in an emergency is to turn the heater on hot and the fan onto maximum.
