Question:
There's a loud clicking noise that comes from the center of my 2001 Subaru Outback. It gets faster as the car moves (any direction), stops when the car stops. Somebody watching me said the exhaust seemed to move up and down with it the noise. Nothing is hanging down and I don't "think" I feel anything insde the car.

it might be your drive shaft..or somthing ...Check the exhaust hangers and your U-joint for the rear driveshaft. If the exhaust pipe has come loose from the hangers the engine vibration could cause it to strike the uderside of your car. If the U-joint is worn it will eminate a click on every revolution.

You could try jacking up one wheel at a time and spinning the wheel by hand. (Follow the jacking safety procedures found in your owners maual. I'm not responsible if you crush yourself.) If you can hear a clicking when rotating one of the wheels by hand, then you have isolated the affected wheel or brake. If you take off the wheel, it might be obvious what the problem is. If not, take it to an auto shop.
A faster ticking would be caused by the engine, so I think it's coming from your wheels or axles. A bad CV axle joint makes a ticking noise which usually is worse on left or right turns. A stone or piece of metal lodged in your tires would make a ticking noise. A noisy fan belt and pulley makes similar noises. First I would have my tires rotated and request that they look closely at each tire for any sign of a foreign object embedded in the tire. Sometimes you just need to have a technician look under the car and see obvious problems.

Sound travels when you think it's coming from a certain area. It could be a number of thing;s. Loos lug nut;s on one of you re wheel's. A hub cap. A U-Joint on the drive shaft could be bad.A Drive axle.Take it to a mechanic soon to have it checked.They can put it on a lift and run it in drive to better find the problem.Brake lights working but warning comes on.?

CV joint on the drive shaftit might be a cv joint,or the exhaust is banging on the floor board.
