I have a 1998 car with nearly 80,000 km mileage. My mechanic said the distributor assembly and air flow meter had to be replaced in order to solve the black smoke and ignition problem. They are extremely costly. He asked for $750 inclusive of labour and non genuine parts (the distributor assembly is even a used one).

A mass air flow sensor can be cleaned with carb cleaner. Could be oxygen sensor. I think you are being lied too.specifications for 6V53 Detroit Diesel?
go to your local junk yard and pick up the parts yourself ,,you will save $$ bigtime..and put them on yourself for 15$ you can pick up a repair manual at an autoparts store. that will show you step by step how to replace them parts..if it doesn,t solve your problem you will still save $$ bigtime .More Questions & Answers ...
