Question:
i have a 1996 ford taurus gl sedan. i have already went through everything i can think of, and 1) the battery is 100% ok and is charged enough. 2) i tried spraying ethor into my air intake and it still wouldnt do anything.
i have been driving this car every day and just parked it in my driveway at ~8:00pm and then this morning at ~11:30am i tried to start it. it will crank and turn over but it is not catching. please if you know anything at all please tell me. i know its not to do with my battery or fuel related. i am thinking it may be my starter. i am going to take it off and go to autozone today and see if thats it. also it is not any fuses. thank you!

It's an ignition problem. The starter is working if the engine is cranking. You already substituted for the fuel. It should have at least acted like it was trying to start.

The easiest way to check for spark is to clamp an old plug to a metal part of the engine and put one of your plug wires on it. Then crank it and see if there is a spark in the gap.

Your coil pack could be dead. This car should have OBDII and the codes can be read for failed parts.

pull the center wire off the dist. cap and get your wife to hold it while you crank the engine. if she screems thats not the problem, but if she dosent then the ign coil is bad. had my dodge do the same thing. just wouldnt start one day.My guess would be that your not getting any power to the spark plugs. If your car turns over but will not start then it is not the starter. If the car is not turning over then yes it could be your starter. But if you are spraying either in to the intake then i will assume it is turning over and you most likely have an ignition problem

it's not your starter if it's cranking!do you have spark? I'm willing to bet you have a bad ignition module.
turning over and cranking is the same thing.did you check to see if its getting gas?check the gas filter and run a test on the fuel pump.also it could be the fuel pump regulator.did you check for spark at the plugs? it might be the coil or module.they dont give you a warning.
if it turns over its not your starter. it not geting spark.

after reading the post again it seams to be the timing belt broke and the engine is just spining sense those are noninterferance engines pull off the top timing cover bolts and look inside as someone else turn over the engine if its not spining than that is it. it will make it not have spark also. come back and put up a post if its the belt and we will tell you how to replace it

i know everyone is saying starter and spark plugs, but it could also be a weak alternator. check this out, if it is, it could also be draining the battery and starter. have been told to check the alternator a few ways, but have usually had to jump the car first. a weak, but not dead alt. can mimic starter problems.This is definitely not a starter problem. I have a hard time believing it is even a fuel problem, assuming that the ether was sprayed into the right spot. I think that, at this point, given your lack of experience, you might be best to tow it to your local technician. Sounds like a spark issue, but a professional will be able to better diagnose this.
Hey bud, check the fuses marked ignition, both under the hood & at the fuse box. Also make sure your getting air and is not restricted.
