There are two filaments in the stop/tail bulbs. You should change one bulb with the working side to establish for certain whether the bulbs are faulty.

If the bulbs are OK then it is almost certainly a loose wire. Check all connections are sound.

Change the bulbs They usually have more than one element in them and it is possible for "1/2" th e light go bad just like a head light that may work on high beam but not on low beam because that part og the element is burnt out.

This will most likely be due to a ground line.Follow it in to the trunk and see where it's grounded, re-attach.
(had the same issue on another car) also, if your light then stay on like the brake is on...it will be due to the light bulb installed backwards/sideways. make sure when you put them back, you twisted them in to place right...

Most likely these three lights share the same common ground wire and that wire has developed a poor connection at the chassis. pull a bulb and check with a test light between the + terminal of the socket and a good ground with the lights turned on. If there is voltage then the problem is exactly what I just mentioned. If there is no voltage than there is a broken power wire near that circuit. Trust me, its more likely to be a ground problem.

Have you checked the bulbs in another tail light?
Where the brake light and tail light use the same bulb, the bulb contains two filaments - one for brake lights (21 Watts) and one for tail lights (5 Watts). It is quite common for one filament to break, but the other to still work normally. In this case, you need to replace the bulb with one with two working filaments.
Another possibility is that someone has put a single-filament bulb in where there should be a twin-filament bulb (which would require a little bit of brute force, as the bulbs and bulb-holders are designed to ensure this doesn't happen), and the centre contact on the bulb is contacting only the brake-light contact in the bulb-holder. Or the twin-filament bulb could be in the wrong way round (again would require some brute force), which would leave the bulb at an angle in the bulb-holder, and not making correct contact.
