I have a 1986 dodge aries.. my car runs like crap but on the dash bord when the power loss light

The power loss lamp is the same as a check engine lamp nowadays. There is a fault stored in the PCM when that light comes on. Also, when the light comes on, depending on the severity of the issue, it goes into "limp in" mode, where the computer ignores sensors and goes into a preset program. Try turning the key on and off three times (ending in the on position). The power loss lamp will flash a series of 2 digit codes (for example: code 12: flash, long pause, flash, short pause, flash). Record these codes and post them and we can help guide you as far as where to look. Note: Code 12 is start of test, code 55 is end of test.
