1997 Ford Escort Problem?

Question:
My car died out on me, just before it did it made a rattling noise under the hood somewhere. Hasn't started since, Im not much of a mechanic so any help would be great, oh yeah the last 2 weeks before it died out, it seems like the car kinda lost power, had hard time goin up hills n stuff.

why is my 88 iroc powering off when i get to a red light after i've used for a like half hour or so?

First, check the oil, it may be low on oil.
tighten the cables to the battery.
Could just be something simple, check all fluids, even
water in battery.
Could be the gas u bought, get some fuel cleaner to add to the gas in the car.
U could be riding today if it is a simple thing.

Could be a number of things.
The one that comes to my mind is broken timing belt.
The noise you heard was the top of the pistons hitting the bottom of the valves.

Had fuel leak repaired, small fire, how do I clean excess gas still on engine?

Just a shot in the dark, but I have seen this twice recently.
Remove the valve cover and I bet you will find that the rocker arm assembly has broken and some of the rocker arms have slid off the valves so those cylinders no longer work.

Why are my breaks squealling?

If this is the case... you can goto a junk yard, find a simular engine.
Remove the entire rockerarm assembly.
At home remove the assembly off your engine and lay them side by side
Carefully remove the cotter pin on the end and slide everything off down to where nothing is broken anymore. Be very careful not to mix up the order you take them off.
Now do the same with the one from the junkyard.
Swap ONLY the broken parts and reassemble.
With a pair of needlenose pliars remove all pieces of metal from the head of the car (where the valves and all are)
Bolt back on engine.

What you are aiming at doing is to keep the rocker arms in their original position since they are adjustable. This saves a whole lot of time adjusting valvles.

What should be broken are the clamps that hold the rocker assembly to the head.

Adjustments?

Easy job that anyone can do with a basic set of sockets, needlenose pliars and 20 minutes of time.

What seems to be the problem: When u press on gas , u see white fumes with black driplets out of the exaust?

lack of oil or/and water,
the rattle was your engine siezing up,
you now have to replace your engine and look after the new one!!
