I have a 97 Cadillac Catera. The check engine light came on and according to that I need to replace my mass air flow sensor. But, will this sensor cause my transmission light to come on? This is what happens occasionally: The trans light comes on and when I come to a complete stop and start to go again, it revs up but goes very slow until up to speed. Other than this, the car runs great. If I pull over and turn the car off and then restart it the light is gone and no problems for another few days. Any ideas? I'd had to spend close to $300 for this sensor and that not be my main issue. PLEASE GIVE ADVICE!!

Since every thing is interconnected, it's possible the transmission computer requires the MAF input to regulate shifts. I would have the car scanned again and have them pay attention to the transmission.
