Question:
what is dragging brakes? how does it feel? i have a new car, when i step on the brakes, it slows down fast but doesnt stop immediately like my auntie car, i dont want to press down too hard and mess somthing up, i have to put a lil more pressure on the pedal to stop fast but when i drove my auntie car, i barely touched the brakes and i almost slid to a stop. my car only has 23,000 miles on it. also is riding the brakes bad? like when u slowing down with the brake pedal pressed or should i slow down, take my feet off and press again and continue that untill i stop, wont that be bad for the brakes if i ride them or is brakes made to take an abuse of sudden stops? any help please, im just paranoid i might mess up my brakes.

My chevy truck the power window goes down slow and don't?
a dragging brake is when the caliper fails to retract the brake pad from the rotor, causing the pad to wear out prematurely.it will feel like the car is sluggish to accelerate, and you may notice decreased braking power. riding the brakes is a bad habit that will cause your brakes to fail quickly, the heat generated by the friction will cause your brake fluid to essentially boil, and the pad will not grab the rotor as well as it should if you need to do an emergency stop.also the constant heat being applied to the rotor will cause the rotor to warp over time,a sign of this will be a mirror like shine to the rotor. the difference in braking between your car,and aunties may be the design of the brake system, weight of the vehicle, and materials used in the pads. some cars have disc brakes at all four corners, where as some have disc up front, and drum in the rear.a vehicle with disc/drum combination tends to have less brake performance than a 4 disc setup. a heavier car will have more momentum to stop,so therefore it will take longer to stop. also a full organic pad will have the best grab but lowest lifespan,a full metallic wont grab as well, but last the longest. a compromise is a semi metallic which offers both a good lifespan, and good grabbing.. when descending a long hill you may want to consider downshifting to 2nd ( if an automatic) or next lower gear ( if manual) as this will allow the engine to use whats called "compression" braking and will save the brakes for when you really need them.as mentioned before.riding the brakes will only serve to cook your brakes, and you wont have full power if you need itWhy is my car drinking petrol??
It is okay to make sudden stops. All vehicles feel different. Some brake pedals work very easily, some don't. If the car only has 23,000 miles on it, then I doubt there is a problem. Try not to be so paranoid.what is the white smoke coming out off my truck?
Do this: Get really, really high and turn the music up. You'll forget all about your brakes.State of GA- Mechanics Lien - on vehicle ?
You need to proceed to the nearest brake repair facility and have a "free" brake inspection done. Sounds like you either have a bad booster or contaminated brake fluid, I'm guessing the booster, since you can still stop by applying excessive pedal pressure. Does the engine seem like its idling too high? Have you or anyone else added the wrong type of fluid to the master cylinder?Have you had your oil changed lately at a "FASTLUBE", or someone similar? I would try the "BRAKE REPAIR" place.
Doesn't sound like you are doing anything that will harm your brakes. "Riding" the brake means that you have your foot on the pedal even when you are not trying to slow down. Doesn't seem like you are doing that. Dragging brakes are brakes that don't release when you take your foot off the pedal. If you had these, you would smell hot or burning brakes everytime you get out of the car.
My "door open" sign in my car stays on, but all doors are closed, What can be done to fix this?
Different cars have different feel in the pedal. When I get into my wife's car, the first time I hit the brakes, I usually stop really hard, because the pedal feel is different than my car.
How could i take paint off rims that were painted?
Slow down with constant pedal pressure. Try to avoid hard stops from high speed. Doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong.
does my truck have air injection? how do i know?
how new of a car do you have. if you car is less the ten years old it will have something call antilock brakes. These are there to help you stay in control of your car in the case of a an emergency braking condition. No you cant hurt your brakes by stomping on the brakes if you have this new of a car. YES riding the brakes is bad. THey get hot and wear down prematurely. i myself practice the slow down let off and then slow down some more way of doing it. hope this helpsMore Questions & Answers ...
