Question:
After taking the oil pan off i noticed there is a red tint to the crankshaft, on the undernieth side of all pistons, and on piston rods and bearings. Does this mean there was a heat problem or any problem for that matter and will it hinder me to go any further? Any other advice or things to watch out for would greatly be appreciated.

i mechanic for a living,and its not a sign of heat,,if it was heat signs it would have a blueish look to it,,you might want to check and see if its stock or has been re-done before,,other than that if everything else looks good id build it,i have built a bunch of those and the 305,s,with the Chevy's you can just keep re-building those forever,be sure and have the heads done right on it.and it should be OK,,84 was a good block to build,.good luck with it,hope this help,s.,happy new years.

I think if it were a heat problem you would se blue.If you plan on having the block and crank sent out to be checked ask them.I dont think it is a major problem
