Lost a wheel cover, is it dangerous to drive the car?

Question:
I am usually clueless when it comes to cars. I have a Nissan Altima 1998 GXE. Yesterday I found that the wheel cover (hubcap) of my right front wheel was lost. Since it is holiday season, no repair shop is open in the small town I live in Western Massachusetts. I know nothing about cars and am not sure if it is dangerous to drive the car like this. Is it a symptom that some inside mechanics in the wheel might have gone wrong, or it is just a cosmetic thing? I have a planned trip coming up in a couple of days, don't want to lose the whole wheel while I am driving to the airport which is about one hour away. Or is there any other concerns that I should know about? I am also planning to park it outdoors at the airport for a couple of weeks. Will the wheel be affected by the weather without the wheel cover? Thanks a lot!

God, I wish I was a mechanic in your town!!
No, a hub cap is basically there for appearance.
DON'T WORRY !
It probably came off after hitting a pot hole or making a hard turn.

how do i find out what engine i have?

Enjoy your trip. When you get back, check the local junkyards and see if they have a matching cover. It just snaps onto the wheel.

Wheel covers are decorative... it will look ugly. Has nothing to do woth how secure the wheel nuts are. If you have a habit of hitting potholes hard, you might want to slow down, it can screw up the alignment.

In my experience, they're more trouble than they're worth. I will only buy cars with alloy wheels.

when you get an oil change for your car, can you choose the type of oil they use?

No, it's not dangerous. Hubcaps are basically there for show, and sometimes they come off. My pickup truck lost a hubcap about a month ago and it hasn't blown up or anything, and it takes a beating.

where can I find the freeze plugs on a 1991 Chevy 2500 Pick up truck?

It's purely cosmetic. Like others have said, you can probably find a replacement at a junkyard or on ebay. If you go to a repair shop, they will sell you a new one from Nissan, which would cost quite a bit of money.
