Clacking Noise '99 Ford Ranger?

Hot soap and water, use Gunk or petrol for the sticky bits. Gunk really stinks thats why i use petrol. Rinse with sponge and light hose and dry off immediatly with towel. Going at it with a pressure washer could cost you dear if you short a plug or screw the ECU. Yes the plugs and connectors are some what water resistant but there's none of them with an official IP rating. You may get away with pressure washing or steaming cleaning the engine then again you might not. Thats why the folks that clean cars generally have disclaimer signs stating you clean your engine at your own risk.
I wouldn't listen to the advice of the master auto mechanician or what ever the **** he is. He might of slept we a mechanic but thats aboot it.

Wrong gas in car .how do i get car running again?

It is ok to clean your engine but not with pure steam. You can use a mild engine degreaser such as Gunk. The electronics will usually be ok if you power wash your engine. The connector are designed to prevent water intrusion and be weather tight. However, avoid placing the nozzle of the pressure washer up close to the connectors. And try to avoid focusing the spray on the distributor and plug wires if your car has them. You should be able to lightly spray your distributor and plug wires with water and not have any problems. However, if you have faulty plug wires or distributor cap, the water will intensify this problem by giving the spark a path to travel to ground(the engine block). I've found the best way to wash your engine is by using a name brand engine degreaser and very hot water. I just hook a garden hose to the hot water heater and use straight hot water to rinse off the engine. If your car is older, you may run the risk of having water intrusion at some of the connectors, but like I said, if you don't hold the nozzle too close to the engine, you should be ok.
