Car question-?

Question:
On the highway was going around 55 hit the gas to get speed up etc. but the rpm dial wouldn't go past 3? why is the car acting so sluggish?
it's an audi a4 1.8t w/quattro and automatic 2001

Sounds like a fuel problem to me. You might be able to get it past 3K rpm at idle, because it takes way less fuel at idle than at 55 mph to increase engine speed. If the engine is only getting a certain amount of fuel, it would limit how it's able to accelerate. You might have the fuel pump, the injectors, or the ECM checked, since the ECM regulates the fuel injection.
