Question:
I was driving on the hyway and the car reved up high to where i thought it was in neutral. It was not so I pulled over and the car dosn't go into any gear or reverse. Is the transmission just bad or could there be another reason for this. there was no prior slipping and the light did not come on. the fluid level is fine? TIA
Answers:
does seafoam really work? how would i apply it on a 2000 nissan altima?
Very easy answer, three choices.1. Low on fluid. (Transmission cooler lines always leak and sometimes blow off and fluid leaks)
2. Broken axle (CV Joint)
3. Internal transmission problem. (needs overhaul)
If the cable broke it would no stop moving it would still be in gear.
These vehicles only have a loss of prime issue when starting cold.
Don't be confused with all the suggestions.
its not a medalflake paint job, black factory paint on new truck and?
This happened to me once and I took it to the dealer and of course, they said nothing was wrong. I have a 2002 Chrysler Sebring and last year I had to pay out of my own pocket over 2,000 to fix the transmission. The car was out of warranty but when I took it in the fist time a few years back, it was under warranty. I think you MAY have a faulty transmission and hopefully, your car is under warranty! Don't let them tell you, "Nothing is wrong". If it's an Automatic it could be the linkage to the automatic. If it's manual, it could be the linkage to the manual. If it's been overworked, and pulled something heavy, and makes a funny noise while being put in to park, it the bearing cage on the CVC.what does it mean when the check engine light comes on in a chevy malibu 2001?
I believe your transmission is bad. thats a problem w/ chrysler - bad transmission. What is the difference between Dry and Wet NOS systems?
Sounds like a pump that has lost prime, check the fluid level cold and hot, take to the dealer have them check for TSB's (Technical Service Bullitins) for a Loss of Prime issue.Could be the shifter cable broke. If this is so, you can move the shifter say to drive or reverse and the shifter will move very easy.
You can check this by looking for the cable where it comes out of the firewall and is connected to the trans. Then have some one
shift it and see if the linkage moves. If it does it is not the cable.
The next thing you can try is a little messy.
Look at the radiator and find the two steel lines enter it. Then remove 1 line and have someone start the car. (WHEN YOU DO THIS TRANSFLUID WILL OR SHOULD SPRAY SO JUST START IT AND THEN TURN IT OFF)
iF IT DOES NOT SPRAY THE FROUNT PUMP INSIDER THE TORK CONVERTER IS OUT AND NO LONGER PUMPING THE FLUID AND THIS WILL NOT ALLOW IT TI WORK
If this is the case the trans is shot.
How many miles does your car have? If you have more than 80,000 or 90,000 your timing belt could have broken. If the motor will turn over, but won't start now, it is probably your timing belt. Usually this is an expensive fix. Could be $500 or more. Good luck.
