Question:
My daughter's Windstar was acting strangley and then quit altogether. Yesterday she had it towed to her dealership where they put in a new battery and new brakes. She was
thannkful it was not the computer like she thought it might be. Today as she started to use the cruise control it jerked funny then all kinds of flashing went on in the dashboard. Three error messages popped up. She pulled off the highway, turned the car off and looked at the manual and the gist was it said to take her car right in. When she started the car up everything was fine and no messages. The next exit had a Ford Dealership so she went in and they looked at it for her. This is what THEY said they thought it was.
Question about what I should do on my car repair?
When you put a new battery in sometimes it will take a bit for all the systems to get used to the better power and what probably happened was there was like a zip of power and the car said, WHOA!. Does this sound right? will this harm the car?
Answers:
Maybe a ball joint on a Grand Marquis? Creaking when making left turns, even when pulling into park?
If the computer was not reset when the battery was changed it likely was not pleased. When they removed the old battery the computer lost power and they do not like that very much. If there were error messages in it before it lost power, and those messages were not erased, it could have become confused and rather upset with your daughter. If it's running okay now it's fine. It made it's point.
HOW TO I REMOVE THE WINDSHIELD WIPER ARmS FROM A 1994 GMC JIMMY S15!!!!!!!!!?
The battery has absolutely nothing to do with it.A clicking noise in 95' eclipse. Only happens here and there?
if they say it i say trust it, just get them to put it in writing. That dealership should be shut down for making such a dumb statement. Anyone who knows about electricity, electronics or anything technical will laugh at their explanation.
Sounds like malarkey to me. They probably couldn't think of what is causing the problem, so they concoct some foolishness to tell the customer, even if it doesn't jive right.
1994 grand am where in the transmission control solenoid?
It's a ford ,which stands for Fix Or Repair Daily.Have them plug it up and read all the errors in the ECM and tell you what the codes meant.
Then ask them how can a new battery cause that?
That sounds to me like an answer from a technician who doesn't know what the answer is, & is afraid to admit it.
I was a die hard Ford man through 4 vehicles 3 of them Vans.
The last one I owned will be the last Ford that I ever own.
I am still driving my 2000 Dodge Durango, & I have no complaints about it, & it's on it's 2nd battery. There was nonsense like what your daughter experienced with her Ford when I had my battery changed.
Will a 4.6 engine fit where a 5.4 comes out 1997 f150?
When the car is running, it is using power from the alternator, which is 14VDC. That is how it is able to charge the 12 VDC battery. For all you professional mechanics?
I would get a second opinion. It really sounds like the computer. As sad as it is to say, some dealerships see a woman come in and and dont really take them seriously. This may or may not be the case. Any how the best route to take is a second opinion. You can never be too safe when it comes to your car. Good luck. The problem with a woman, and with most men in technical questions, is that the more TECHNICAL the answer, the harder it is for the average person to understand.
AND most women I know will pursue the answer more, whereas most men will just act like they understand and go on.
And most technitions don't get paid to sit there and talk, and most service writers don't have a clue if the factory doesn't give them a bulliten.
What tyre size on a MINI ONE emergency wheel?
As for your daughter and her battery.
It is true of new cars the computer doesn't like the battery being unplugged. HOWEVER your computer designers are pretty smart and they know that sometimes batteries get changed. (and the computers don't nORMALLY freak out, if the proper procedure is followed when changing batteries)
Where did my other valet key go for my installed alarm?
When your car is running, the alternator is providing full power, 14.3 to 13.8 volts your battery normally measures around 12.8 with no load (nothing runing). So if everthing is running correctly, then the power is ALWAYS THE SAME, electrical power-delivery wise. IF IT ALL IS WORKING CORRECTLY.
Tell her to never pul;l off the highway and turn the car off again.(for a power problem) If it is running leave it running. ?Wha if she got stranded?
2002 ford taurus airbag light stays on!! HELP?
Plus, elec power problems are a witch to find, so if it acts up again she should go to the Ford house right then with out turning off the car AT ALL, (so the computer won't re set) reading all those codes is cool, but it will not self-heal nor will it tell you EXACTLY what is wrong. and if the tech cannot get the codes to read he has nowhere to start looking.
Take a little time next time you talk to your service writer, let him know your not mad at him, always go to the same guy, let your attitude be, hey could you help me with MY lil problem. ??
Alot of ppl just fgo off on the service guys, remeber it's your car, they will never know what it is doing as well as you do, so it's a communication barrier sometimes.
If "timing belts" are so problematic, why not go back to chains?
this is a mystrey problem (so far) and mysteries are hard to solve.
There wierd sounding answer, from a tech view point is more than half right.
MOST PEOPLE just want to be told everything is cool, and go about their dayand not really knwo the tech aspects of what is wrong.
SOOOO if you go out on a drive right now. and hit the cruise control what happens?? Do this after the van is hot and do it right by the dealership. and don't turn it off if it does it again, just get the service guy to go for a ride with you.
Car only starts when jumped? Car is NEW with 1300 miles on it.?
Also you may not know (it is an industry secret) that when electrical components are manufactered, they are ALL vacumm encased and filled with smoke. AND once you LET THE SMOKE OUT of them they will no longer function properly. This cruise control problem is either just a ground wire, or your fixin to let the smoke out..hahaha
Sorry this got so long.
