Heat doesnt get very warm..either does the car?

Question:
wondering why my 96 corsicas temperature stays so low and the heat doesnt get very hot...is this a chevy 3.1 v6 thing? ALL of my other cars including my cavalier and escort have had really hot heat and the coolant temp would go to a lil before middle...this one stays at a quarter past cold.

Well I would say the thermostat is stuck open. If this happens the water will flow all the time and not allow it to get hot.
This also affects the heat, the heater will blow luke warm or nearly cold all the time.
Change the thermostat to say a 185 for winter and 165 in the summer.
Why the lower for the summer, is you use the air conducting and you want the water to flow faster thus the low in the summer. IT won't over heat that way.

Go to the auto parts store and get a stock replacement thermostat. Some one might have put a lower temp thermostat in.

Get a new thermostat installed in you vehicle. That should fix your problems.

I would suspect the thermostat is stuck partly open or completely open. The thermostat should prevent coolant from flowing until a temperature is reached, usually between 180 and 220 deg. Fahrenheit. If the engine does not get to normal operating temp this is likely the issue.

A bad thermostat would usually fails closed and will cause overheating UNLESS the thermostat is stuck wide open. A wide open thermostat would allow the coolant to freely circulate....and in the winter means very cool coolant and therefore poor heating.
