Hi there, my corsa 1.2 8v is using excessive fuel. It's a 1998 model. I posted on here last night however i have had further checks on it today.
It definately isn't the head gasket as it has had a compression test, it's not the spark plugs or ht's as they have been replaced and checked. The car is still firing on 3 cylinders and is very tappy the engine. The garage told me that one of the holes on one of the tappets could be blocked as the oil was solid and gungy when i got the car. Does any body know how to unblock these? I was just going to take the rocker cover off and unblock and clean it, however the machanic said that i would have to take the head off? What do you clean inner engine parts with?

I have taken the cover off and cleaned lifters with a brush an diesel. Then cleaned drain hole's in head with coat hanger. Flush out oil pan let set until diesel evaporates, refill with oil and new filter ready to go.Fuel sounds like throttle position sensor.How many qts of oil does the ford 460 engine require at change?
I'm not reccomending you do this, but, in the old days we used to add a quart of transmission fluid to the engine and let it idle for 15 minutes, then drain the oil, and change the filter.(Don't drive it with Trans. fluid in the engine though!)

i had that same problem with my truck.1. drain about 1and a half or 2 quarts of oil.
2. put in the same amount of kerosene. yes kerosene.
3. start you engine and run it for about 10 min.
4.drain all of the oil and replace it.
if the engine is excessively filthy, this might have to be done several times. but hey, at least you would have to remove the head and replace the gasket.
Well you could buy what they call engine flush you add it to your oil and let it run for a specific period of time. The you drain the oil and fill it with good oil and replace the oil filter, and after a couple of days youll have to change the oil again to ensure that all of the engine flush is gone. Or if you wanna go a cheaper route you could use a quart or 2 of kerosene. Pour it into the oil run the motor 30 mins. to and hour then drain it. Then replace the filter and fill the oil and do so again in a few days that should clear out any sludge you have. hope the info helps.

if the engine compression is good on all four cylinders then you can forget about valves and pistons unless a valve is sticking under performance conditions and not showing up on a compression test which is unusual ,What would it typically cost to repaint the hood of a car?
You need to flush out your engine ,go to halfords and bye a ten of engine flush oil ,the instruction will be on the side of the tin .Best of luck

you can try some 'top end treatment' Forte make it and STP.or as suggested run it with some diesel in the oil for half hour.
if its noisey though the only cure may be replacement hydraulic lifters.
if engine is missfiring on one cylinder due to hyd tappets holding valves open this must show as a low compression reading! missfiring will be either lack of spark or compression unless internal crack in induction m/fold or vac leak stops fuel to one cyl sealey or factors sell device which compresses value springs thus enabling hyd tappets change in situ. carefully! hyd tappets £4 ea from factors.
