I use Mobil synthetic oil in my '98 CRV. I live out in the country and the closest place uses Valvoline synthetic. Will it hurt my engine to switch or should I travel the extra hour to a place that will use Mobil?

i own a repair shop,and believe me ,it wont hurt a thing to switch it over,,i have done it a few times,,before i switched it over though,,you might just want to buy a case of this stuff,,then you,ll have it on hand when you need it,,that's what i do,,Mobil one is the best you can buy,,and it makes any engine run and perform a lot better,,so id just buy enough of it ,,so if i needed it id have it on hand,,but it wont hurt it to switch it,,that's the good thing about synthetic oil,,good luck,i hope this help,s.Peterbuilt air compressor for brakes?
It would be fine to use another brand of synthetic, it is more or less your choice what to do. Sometimes oil comes with a big PRICE!! and it is the same no matter what brand you buy. You will probably actually save some money going with the Valvoline, as Mobile is some of the highest priced oil out there.!!Switching brand names should not make too much of a difference, but the blends might. Be sure that if you are using full sythetic now, stick to full synthetic. Keep it as similiar to the current oil as possible and you should be fine.
As long as the SAE rating of the two oils is the same, no problem. The rating can be found on the container.

I would stay with Mobil 1. It is a Group IV basestock oil (PAO)Vavoline SYN is a Group III basestock which is molecular re-structured petroleum stock that is considered synthetic. It is a very good oil, much better than conventional but the PAO's are superior products.
