I work tech at a car catalog company. I have taken auto mechanics. I am dam good at my job, yet you get so many jerky guys who would rather talk to a man becasue he thinks the guy knows more. Its funny tho, cuz I know a lot more than most of the guys that work in Product Infromation, and I am a girl. I am sick of this.

Don't be sick over it. People get all bent out of shape in this politically correct world when others are simply being observant. If 4 out of 5 women observed know little to nothing about auto mechanics then it isn't sexist to assume that it is likely that ever female you meet knows little about cars.

I understand that times have changed, but there are a great deal of men out there that either haven't realized this or refuse to accept it. They think like that because most women dont know anything about cars. I think its great that u do, and some guys consider that a turn on. But most females know sh** about cars, like me. For the same reason you wouldn't think of first asking a guy about makeup. A larger percentage of men are into cars than women and a larger percentage of women are into makup than men. People will go where they believe they have the best chances or odds of getting the correct information. Ask yourself this. If you had a sports related question, needed an answer, and could ask only one person at random, would it be a man or woman? You certainly are not sexist, but you know who you would go with.I am not saying it is fair how they treat you, but face it, your talents are not usual for a woman.

Well most women dont give a damn, they think its just the guys responsitbility. I think women should know more! Some women know alot but most women dont pay any attention to what there men tell them when it comes to cars. Its like a woman telling her man about clothes or someshit! MOST men that know about fancy clothes are usually gay men. How many women do you know that can do an engine swap within a few hrs? Don't get discouraged. I know women who know more about cars than I do and I respect that. And I am a man! Hang in there.The reason is is because of the fact that you can't deny women on average do know less about cars and more about shopping, nails and hair. Just make sure that when you do talk to someone and a man is around you that you tell, say a mechanic, that you are the one that is bringing in the vehicle for service and that you are the one that will be talked to. If they still refuse, get the manager. They will take care of it. They would rather make you happy then to have bad word of mouth.
Here is a suggestion though. Help the BBB and news crews by walking into a shop, act like you don't know anything, even though you do, and have them tell you. If they try to scam you, talk to the news stations. They will make a big story on it and I can guarantee that you will help women get more respect from now on. Good luck and YOU GO GIRL.
