I have an issue with my car. 1997 Chevy Cavalier. 2.2L 4spd Auto. I had the check engine light and the ETS light go on at the same time the other day. I hooked it up to a ODB II computer thing or whatever you call it and it says EGR Flow. This is emissions. Why would my ETS light (Traction control) and my check engine light both go on if its only emissions? ETS has nothing to do with emissions right? Please help me!

well your traction light could be due to a bad sensor... go under your car and check the axle for loose sensors. if not then it could possibly be the computer.. to many things that could of caused it.Did I Just get Scammed by a Smog Test Station?
Some cars use different lights for code lights. I would change the EGR valve to fix your check engine light first of all. Then you can check the connection or your ETS witch should be on your Axel. If this doesn't fix the problem take it to a shop and have it looked at.i own a repair shop,and a lot of times one sensor,will cause another one to read bad ,,this is called looping,,and it will drive you crazy,,the small hand held scanners wil do this,,you probably have one bad sensor on it,and it will probably turn out to be the egr circuit or the egr valve that's causing this to happen,,you need to take it to auto zone and have them scan it,its free,and there scanner will probably just narrow it down to one sensor,,this way you,ll know which one it is ,good luck i hope this help,s.

They probably are connected via vacuum lines.My friend's Chevy S15 4x4 runs off vacuum lines when he engages the front wheels.
Most likely everything that moves is run by vacuum.
It's a real headache best left for the mechanic, preferably one you trust.

Try disconnecting the (-)ground cable at the battery to clear the codes. Then drive the car until the light comes back on, then drive to the nearest Autozone for a free computer scan to get the new code, If both show up again, then you probably have a computer problem, especially if they both came on at exactly the same time. if your egr isnt working right then the moter isnt running right wich could couse other problems to accure like maybe the moter isnt creating enough power or doing something that it is not supposed to do cousing the ets light to come onMore Questions & Answers ...
