The deciding factors have to do with flashpoint, viscus breakdown, and impurities in the crude, sulphur for one is bad for your engine. If you buy the name brands of oil you're just paying for all of their advertising. By the way, Ford has a Service Bulletin saying all cars and trucks built since the early 90's should use 5W20 oil.
