I found the unit online for under 100, and from the looks of it, it seems pretty straightforward to remove and replace. Is this something I could do myself? Will I need to adjust anything?

How to get broken pipe fitting out?
If you can easily get to it, sure, do it yourself. As said above, install in the same position as the old one. I just did one on my Subaru.2002 Pontiac Grand Am Spark Plug Gap?
If you don't have a code reader, disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 minutes while you replace it, that should clear the fault.
How much does it cost to fix the gas gauge?
Yes, Autozone could clear it if that is available to you. Just install it identically to the one that is in there, the same gaps on the screw holes. You should be fine.
I've got a '54 Chevy Bel-Air...?
Yes you can do it your self. Most are non adjustable.Install it just like the other one came off.well I don't know much about German cars but I had to do something similar on my Toyota, and I had to drain my coolant before I could take off the throttle body to get at the sensor. now looking back I realized I could have just pinched off a hose and saved some trouble. the mechanic who advised me on the procedure told me that the sensor had to be set "just so" meaning that if you set it wrong your engine could have a side-effect after wards.
I think though, that it was pretty simple and anyone who doesn't mind getting their hands dirty is qualified to do such an exchange as long as you understand what it does first. do some reading and get yourself familiar with it first as it may save you some headache
Problem with my brakes i think i have a fiat punto and i was driving?
you can not do it yourself if you don"t have a scan tool. once install, you have to hook up a scan tool to adjust the throttle position sensor. wrong position and the check engine light will remain on again.More Questions & Answers ...
