No spark on my 87 Ford F-150, 5L engine.?

Question:
When I was driving it started to sputter like it was running out of gas but I have a full tank. I got it home and now it won't start at all. I checked for spark at the plugs and there is none. Anybody out there have this problem before?

mixedup really is! (mixed up that is). No need to fool with your alternator.

You have an ignition problem which could be one of many things. Check first the distributor cap and rotor for signs of "tracking". Check wiring at the coil, and also the high tension coil wire and see if spark is there. If spark is evident at the coil, the distributor will be the culprit. That would lead most likely to the ignition module mounted on the side of the distributor. This part can be tested at a parts store. It is possible the pick-up coil in the distributor has failed, but that is highly unlikely. Check also for broken or loose ground wires.

Check coil, but may be electronic module in distributor.

Where can I find these BMW parts?

I'm no expert on Fords in particular, but an engine is an engine. If you were having effects while driving and now experience a loss of spark it is likely an ignition system problem, probably your alternator. It is not likely your battery because while the engine is running the spark is supplied by your alternator. Along with the alternator there could also be a problem with the voltage regulator, which in some cases is a seperate part. Check the voltage from the battery with a voltmeter, confirm you have 12V to rule the battery out. Then you can simply remove your alternator and bring it to autozone and they can check it for you for free. If it's not the alternator, it's likely the coil. They are very helpful in providing a free diagnosis.

There was a free reimbursement program from Ford on their TFI ignition modules that applies to your truck.

Hi, Does anyone have a good link to a Vacuum Diagram for a 1968 Ford 289 Engine?

It was very common for the module inside of the distributor to fail and as mentioned Ford has some sort of campaign for that. But, I had a similar incident where the module was good but the coil failed, very unusual.
