Will a 265 volt a/c condensor run on 208 volts AC?

Question:
Placard says "265 v 1ph" it has been running on 277v but welds the contactor for the compressor from time to time. We have 208v 1ph available. What do you think, will it work?

Answers:

TR switch location?

you may have sufficiently shifted the IE phase factor that the difference is burning out down-circuit components.

air-conditioner keep running even in the car or truck or van when you have the defroster on to heat the window

No. It will draw too much current to try to make up for low voltage and probably burn up.
