Question:
i have a 79 bronco with a 400 m and c6 trans. it startes up just fine 2 days ago. and then i replaced my alternator and charged the battery and now it wont start! what could be wrong. when i turn the key it makes a wierd sound and it is coming from the solenoid. i tried crossing the posts on the solenoid and i get the same thing. any ideas? could it be the starter or what?

try tapping the soleniod a few tiomes then start it, might be a bad solenoid... sometimes tapping it a few times will work.How do I get the smell of vomit out of my automobile car seat?
Check all connections.Sounds like somethings not hooked upright.
The 'weird" noise you're hearing is probably the solenoid trying
to make the circuit.(stuttering)
its the brain box. located on the drivers side under the hood.

Chances are if you have the battery fully charged then you will find that you have a bad connection at the battery or the battery isn't fully charged at all. The sound I am thinking you are getting probably sounds more like a very rapid clicking sound which is the sound a dead battery makes. So first i would check the battery connections(if you have aftermarket battery cable ends also check where the cable attaches to the end itself). If that don't work try jump starting it if that works then I would take the battery and have it tested.Chances are the battery is bad.

try tapping it like the other guy said the battery might be shot also but if that doesn't work then getting jumper cables and hook them to the to wires going to the starter if the starter turns the engine over then it means you have a bad solenoid but if all else fails have a mechanic look at it but he will end up doing the same thing then he will tell you its bad and you'll end up spending allot of money by paying the mechanic to replace itdid you connect the battery with the right polarity?
