Question:
I suspected that there was internal engine damage. Took the car to a mechanic and asked them to find out what was wrong and that I did not want to put a lot of money into it as it is 12 yrs. old. I was told the timing chain had broke and gave me an est. Not telling me at that point that there could be internal damage as I suspected.I okayed to have this done but I absoutly did not want to put out any more money and they said that was all that was wrong. They replaced the chain. Then they proceeded to say the water pump needed replaced. Then I was Informed there was internal damage which I understand cannot be detected until trying to start the engine. Should I have been told before the chain was replaced that it's possible that there could be internal engine damage and how should adjustments be made as far as cost? As I am not having anymore repairs done.

man sorry about the bad luck,i have been turning wrenches for 30 yrs, most tech,s know if they are working on an interferance eng or not...that means that they should know that if the chain or belt breakes that there are going to be bent valves..............if you dont want the car dont pay the bill tell them to keep the carI've been through this exact scenario before and they morally should have told you........however, there is not much you can do as you authorized for them to do what they did.
