You should have been servicing the engine regularly, then it would still be in good condition, and would run ANOTHER 127K miles.

A car can burn a lot of oil without smoking. When you see smoke, it is REALLY worn out, and you will get ticketed.
sounds like a gasket is leaking if its burning oil it could be cylinder rings or bearings hope its gaskets.
All the above and when the head gasket on my dad's truck he had to put oil in it every approx. 2 weeks.
