Battery Cable fails on 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan ES - Now I need to replace entire wiring harness?

Question:
The van in question has about 110,000 miles; well maintained and in good shape. It has been running fine, including today. After running some errands this morning, I parked it in my garage and came back out to it about an hour later, and found it would not crank. Interior lights / headlights / etc. were working but the starter only clicked. There were some 'erratic' things going on - the raio was cycling on and off; same for the CD player, lights were flickering some. I had it towed to a Dodge dealer; they said the connections on the battery cables were bad, and that the Dodge service manual said that the entire wiring harness needed replaced to fix it (estimated $2,200 parts & labor). Supposedly the cables are not long enough to replace the connectors on the battery side, so the only option is to replace the entire wiring harness. Sounds incredibly suspicious to me! Anyone concur / have a similar problem? Any suggestions?

If you have any friends who are even HALF useful with electical things, ask them to do it for you. If you are stuggling to find really heavy guage cable - then either try looking artound for welding wire OR buy a QUALITY set of jump leads (not ones with lots of plastic and a thin conductor) and use the wire from that.

You are about to be royally screwed by the dealer. Might be worth asking them to see if they would agree to put their "findings" down on paper - it is my guess that they will not.

Hi can any one tell me if i can put a 5sp man gear box in a 82 hilux?

Whatever you do, DON'T let that dealer rip you off. Take it somewhere else, where they will know how to splice the cabling. You can get the proper parts for the job at an auto parts shop...I'd be surprised if it costs you more than $25.00.
