Symptoms of a bad trasmission?

Question:
I have a 2000 Toyota prerunner v6 automatic making a whining noise when in gear. The sound increases like a jet engine when the truck is accelerated. Problem is recent. The truck sounds like a diesel when in gear. Could this be a bad transmission? Feel free to e-mail me directly with any suggestions.

if there is no codes, is the wheel bearing.

where is the air bag control module located on a 2001 ford mustang gt ?

it could mean several things. One could be your transmission, or it could be low on fluids. I'm not going to just tell you whats wrong and have it be the wrong thing. What I would do is take it to a shop and see if they can tell what the problem is. It may not be cheap but then you'll know whats wrong and can get it fixed.

The whine MAY come from the radio though. Make sure your radio is off.

How do I check the differental fluid on a Navigator?

yea your transmission is bad. sounds like what happens is before it goes up a gear, the RPM shoots up to like 4-5,000 rpm, a car should change gears when it hits about 2 1/2 - 3,000 rpm. Do you feel like you get shot back in your seat just before you switch gears?

how do I make the check engine light go out on a 2006 toyota tundra?

Does the noise get louder just after the battery starts your engine? if so its probably a loose connection in your exhaust.. also check for exhaust fumes under your car and under your hood.. the spot where you can smell the fumes the most is probably the area you have a break in your exhaust.
Dont spend too much time looking for fumes, youll prolly get a buzz from all the fumes, depending on the size of the leak. one or two sniffs and you should know if you smell fumes and whether or not its coming from the engine area or the muffler area.

On the car, where can I?

How many miles? Your whining noise could be an automatic issue. When an automatic goes bad it will start slipping before it starts whining. You know it is slipping when you mash the gas, but your vehicle takes as long as 15 - 30 seconds to respond and the engine will be running at higher than normal RPMs.
...but in a RWD vehicle it can also come from the carrier bearing of the driveshaft (if it has these your drive shaft will be in "halves"...a front portion to the tranny and a rear portion to the differential). On the driveshaft there are also universal joints which can also make a similar noise, but when these go bad you can hear the drive shaft clunking the bottom of the vehicle.
Your best bet is to take it to the shop and have them do a diagnostic.

How do you disengage the caliper when changing the brakes and rotors on a 94 Ford Explorer?

Interesting you should say this? Does it only do it when in gear or at neutral also? The reason I say this is because you may be hearing a bad alternator instead. They do the same that you are describing here. It may be your tranny, but don't rule out the other unless you already looked into it. Plus an alt is quite a bit cheaper than a tranny. Just a thought here.
