I have a hole in my muffler......serious problem?

I noticed a couple days ago that I have a tiny hole in my muffler....will that cause a serious problem with my car?

Is this caused by rust or does it look like a perfect little drilled hole about 1/8" in size at the bottom of muffler. I noticed once mine had this from new, it was to drain water/condensation.

Not necessarily, but soon enough your car will begin to get louder and louder as the muffler disintegrates. There is no cure but to get a new muffler.

i own a repair shop,and eventually it will get bigger and become a problem with it,,but for a while you can drive it like this,,but keep in mind it will have to be replaced and if you have to pass a smog test,,it may not pass it,,good luck,i hope this help,s.

All mufflers have a small hole to let out water. For every gallon of Gasoline burned your engine gives off a gallon of water in the form of liquid and vapor. Having said that....if there IS a small hole ( rusted etc ) then the main thing to keep in mind is the exhaust fumes.....Carbon Monoxide......drive with your window down a little...just a little to insure that the fumes can't and won't overcome you as I'm sure you live in a area that's cold right now and you are driving with all windows rolled up to keep all heat in. Get it fixed as soon as it's practical and be careful until then.
