Question:
I have a a 2001 model renault clio. Whilst changin down a gear a knocking sound comes from the engine.
It is one loud knock/bang on each occasion and normally occurs whilst changing down from gear 2 to gear one. Also it occurse when I take my foot off of the clutch to quickly when going up a gear.
Any Ideas? is it seriuos? help!

HiThis sounds very much like a badly worn engine mount.
Is there a website that lists Mercedes parts and part numbers?
Pop the bonnet, start the engine, and have someone dip the clutch and fiddle with the gears whilst you watch whats happening in the engine compartment. You should very clearly see the engine moving if its a mount.
Sometimes just putting the vehicle in reverse with the engine running will show up a worn mount because the engine will very clearly move as reverse is engaged.
Engine cut out when I slowed down?
If it does turn out to be a worn mount then you should replace it as soon as possible because otherwise it may damage your exhaust and the other mounts.

Maybe you have a duff engine mounting, allowing it to move too much and f'rinstance knock the exhaust against the body. Easily determined by a mechanic, I'd get it checked now before anything serious happens.How can I install my car's window regulator?
sounds like a broken engine mount.of cv joint problem, have it checked out as soon as you can before any more damage can happen..Can be very serious if the knocking noise is coming from the engine.You may have a rod bearing going bad.If the bearing seizes while driving or anytime the engine is running.It can come through the side of the block.Your best bet would be to have your local repair garage make a definite answer to your question.Knocking noises can come from other things as well as like a loose item underneath the car.It is too hard to tell as what it really is jusyt from your info.Good Luck But then again you say it gives a bang noise.Is it that it is 'Backfiring?
could be the clutch pressure plate throw out bearing . this should all be replaced at the same time when changing.

Pah, engine mounting almost definitely. Does it do it if you drive along in first and snap the throttle on and off? If so then it is just a mount, normally only a few quid to buy and in a small car like a clio, and easy fit, just loosen the mount and support the engine sump on a jack.More Questions & Answers ...
