Question:
I have a 96 Chevy Lumina van. The low coolant light came on a few days a go, but then it goes off, then back on. It is not flashing, just coming on and off. I had the water pump replaced in Aug when it dumped all the coolant out, light didn't come on then although I had been leaking coolant for weeks. Temputure gauge stays right where it should be and I am not leaking coolant. No problems with the car other than the light. Any ideas?

Is there anything I can do to get spray paint off my car?
O-k, What happens is when they changed the water pump they had to drain the coolant out of the whole system. When they refilled it they ran the car up to temperature after filling it.The problem is they may not have ran it long enough for the thermostat to open up and allow coolant to enter into the complete system. What this means is that the radiator was full at the time they gave the car back to you, but the engine coolant chambers were empty still so when the thermostat finally opened up and filled the chambers there is now coolant in the motor as well. When the car engine cools back down the thermostat closes again with some of the fluid in the motor. So now the radiator is low which sets off the sensor telling the computer that the car is low on coolant. All you have to do since the engine now has coolant in it,is when the engine is cold put more coolant in the radiator till its full.
You may need to do this a couple times till the complete system is filled all the way.The light will then stay off and not come back on.
Just always remember never try and fill it up when the car is hot.Its under pressure then and can blow out and burn you badly.Only fill it when its cold.
Good luck!

Check the level of antifreeze when cold, make sure it is upto the cold level mark.Check the connection for a coolant level sensor on the bottom of the coolant tank. The sensor may be faulty.
