It is adviseble to warm up your vehicle when it is cold. But do it in neutral with the park brake on. This warms up your tranny fluid if it is an automatic. This is the only time the pump in your tranny works moving the fluid throughout the transmission. Also it prevents damage to your internal engine parts as the oil warms up to lubricate all the internal engine parts such as bearings on your crankshaft and cam. Also good for your lifters and rocker arms.
