How can I reduce cabin noise in my '95 Nissan Pathfinder?
You didn't say if you had a manual or automatic. Here's an answer for an automatic:
Do you have your foot on the brake pedal when you try to shift out of park? There's a safety interlock that doesn't allow you to shift out of park unless your foot is on the brake.
The other thing is if you park on an incline, and don't set the parking brake before putting it in park, it will cause it to be difficult to take out of gear. The solution to this is to set the parking brake while in neutral, take your foot off the brake to let the parking brake hold the car, and then put it in park. Then when you get back to your car, be sure to shift out of park before releasing the parking brake (remember to have your foot on the brake).

Diagnose my car issues, multiple issues need advice.?
Try shifting into a different gear. Sometimes the gears are trying to mesh with the teeth right on the edge. Selecting another gear will move the gear slightly so that you can go into first or reverse.
