It the car suddenly shut off with no warning, or failed to start, a computer failure or catastrophic battery failure would be more likely - it has happened to me five times. As oklatom said, if changing the battery solved the problem, obviously that was the problem.

I suppose if the battery was so dead it was bringing the alternator voltage down too, the fuel pump could quit running, or the computer shut down the ignition.
You got ripped because the only thing the battery does is to provide power to start your car then once started the alternator produces the power to run it. You could have a clogged fuel injector or filter, maybe a bad oxygen sensor, or a bad fuel pump or relay.

sounds like the fuel pump to me. but if you are in a hot climate, you may have had a vapour lock. letting the car sit for 15 min or so then tryiing to start it. the battery shouldnt be the problem, so the other option is the alternator. take it to a reputable shop that can run a computer check on it and tell you what the real problem isCan you go to autozone for them to diagnose a "service engline soon" light for free?
i own a repair shop,and if the battery went completely out in it,,that might cause it to do like that,,it may have also been the alternator that went out on it,,that will make it go dead like this,and it may have also jumped timing ,,it can be a lot of things that caused this to happen,,you may just have to wait and see what they say happened to it,good luck,i hope this help,s.Does anyone know where i can get a owners Manuel for 2005 for Taurus?
Sounds odd to me, but hard to troubleshoot without seeing it. If a car is running and has a dead battery, as long as the alternator is good, it should still run. Batteries are for starting. I would look more for a fuel filter, fuel pump, or injection problem.Dodge Neon fuel gauges lie. Mine ran out of gas once when the fuel gauge read 1/4 tank. Your symptom sounds absolutely nothing like a bad electrical system. It sounds everything like an out-of-gas situation.
