Question:
I've been using mid-grade gas (Shell) in my car since I bought it. It has 115700 miles today. If I switch to Shell Plus which is a high grade gas, will it harm the engine in any way? Will it cause overheating due to the higher octane level?
Is it better to use mid grade gas instead?

Higher octane gas does not cause overheating or is it harmful to your car. Added cost of high octane gas will increase your operating costs. If you are not running a high performance engine stay with the mid grade gas as you will not notice any significant difference in performance. If you are still in doubt check owners manual as this will give you information on gas best suited for your engine. What does it mean when #10 fuse keeps blowing in my 2001 plymouth neon?
Your car will not overheat by using high grade gas, however you are wasting you hard earned money unless you car requires high test you might as well just put in regular grade and about every 20,000 mile put in a good fuel aditive like BG when you fill up. That it all you need and you should get another 100,000 out of it. Good LuckCan a strut on your car Actually Break?
It will not cause overheating or engine damage, but you may be wasting your money if the engine in your year, make, and model of car does not require it.I really need to know why do I need to keep jump starting my car?
you will need to tell us what car are you driving. most cars have no problem with this but, some turbocharged cars do because the turbo overheats because of the high octanage and may present problems. so if your car is naturally aspirated use shell plus, if not use just the mid grades. ps. this doesnt happen in all carsWhat causes a car engine to misfire and how do you fix it?
You don't indicate the type of vehicle but all vehicles 96 and newer have sensors and an ECM which will compensate for whatever fuel you put in the vehicle and adjust air/fuel mixture to provide the best performance that the car can give you. Unless your vehicle specifically indicates that you should use premium, there is no need to use anything other than regualr unleaded. So long as there is no ping under load, the car is happy with the gas..and you are saving LOTS of money at the pump. And no..changing gas will NOT cause overheatingMore Questions & Answers ...
