The two spade connectors do look the same, however the guage of the wire that the red one will accept is probably different than the guage of the wire the "clear plastic" one will accept. Most connectors such as yours are rated for 600 volts so that's not an issue. The different colors denote the size wire your going to install it on. There are also different sized spades. If the two (male and female) don't match in size you won't be able to plug them together. And finally to confuse matters even more, different manufacturers have different color codes and different sizes. The best thing you can do Mathew is to buy a matched set, male and female.
