MIG stands for metal inert gas, also known as wirefeed welding, and this is where you have a machine that has a spool of wire that is self fed by the machine through a "gun" you hold in your hand. TIG stands for tungsten inert gas, where you hold the rod by hand and feed it...having the benefit of not so much heat on the work.

TIG is (Tungsten Inert Gas) It uses an arc that is created by a tungsten electrode to heat the metal you are welding and you feed the rod by hand. The inert gas shields the weld keeping oxygen away from it. MIG is (Metal Inert Gas) and is a wire feed welder with shielding gas..

Wire flux welding is the same as a MIG but does not use argon gas, and isnt as good as a welder.

A Stick welder is my favorite, used for heavy plate welding and frame work as well. A stick welder uses electric to weld and uses a stick of metal as your welding source.
