Transmission problems?

Question:
My 1997 Toyota RAV4 , standard 5 speed has lost the 5th gear. I heard that there's an "updated" part. Is it better to just replace the whole tranny with another used one or to have it rebuilt?

Answers:

noises under the hood?

It depends upon the cost and warranty and who you take it to. I have had bad experiences with AAMMCO transmissions, they lie about what is wrong and always try to sell you a new one.

how can I tell if my car's speedometer is not working?

You need to weigh those factors: Cost vs. warranty vs. reputation.

corsa waterpump change?

I wouldnt put a used one in unless this problem is an unusual defect or from very high mileage. Otherwise I would consider going with a used tranny from a salvage yeard with a warranty.

My fan belt is 9 years old with 70 thousand miles on it but it looks fine should I replace it anyways?

its better to replace it with a used one with less miles if you rebuild it which is very expensive u rely on a mechanic that could make a mistake compared to a transmision that you know is good
