Question:
IAC (Idle Air Control) Valve - does it have anything to do with my car running badly and when its on and i stop at a traffic light or stop sign it makes my car vibrate and the rpm goes down then goes back up and the entire vehicle shakes. and i took my car to the dealership and they said its nothing what if i tell them it might be the IAC will they look at it and fix it or will they just act like nothing is wrong again. a mechanic told me that the IAC is the problem but im not sure if it is and if the saturn dealer service will do anything about it. the car is a 2005 saturn ion.

Surging at Idle can be caused by many things so its hard say for sure that the IAC is the culprit but yes it is a part of the idle control system so it could e the problem....most modern ECU's record Sensor and Actuator Voltage values and randomly compare them to a preset Value and if one is found to be out of range it should send an error code. Have the shop scan the ECU and it should say what the culprit is. I would reccomend you have one of the dealer techs go for a test ride with you so you can demonstrate the problem first hand for them.some other possibility's

Call the dealer and ask for any outstanding recalls on your vehicle... you just need to give them the last 8 numbers of your VIN. Recalls are for the life of the vehicle.My car shuts itself off immediately after using the remote start feature.?
If it was the IAC it would set a trouble code and the dealer would have found it try checking where the throttle plate closes in the throttle body i bet there is a oil build-up clean with a rag and some carb cleaner will do exactly what you describedOn a DOHC, is the "camshaft housing cover" and the "cylinder head" the same thing?
carbon build up on the throttle plate can cause your symptom, what is describe as a rolling or hunting idle. Depending on your driving habits, build up of carbon can appear as early as 20,000 miles. If your "check engine light" not on, have your local mechanic clean the throttle plate with a throttle body cleaner, or you can purchase it at a local auto supply store.
