Question:
on new years i was driving home from my g/f's. ive been having some issues with 3rd gear being difficult to engage. Usually it grinds and ill have to be a little more gentle with it. Well on newyears day it popped when i tried to engage 3rd gear. nothing happend so i went into 4th. it engaged and stayed there. even in neutral it acts as though its in 4th gear. Is this a linkage problem or something internal?

SOUNDS LIKE A SYNCHRO FINALLY BROKE WHICH IS INSIDE AND COSTS MANY BUCKSYour linkage needs replaced or it may be your motor mounts may be broke i had that happen

You might have blown a gear. If you are a master on transmissions, then go ahead and replace the gear. If not, then get it done at your trusting mechanic.What would make a car heater only work on high?
i mechanic for a living,,and own a shop,and its either has a broken the linkage or has a bad synchronize,r in it ,this will cause it to do this ,it would have helped if you had said what kind of a car it is,it sure helps in answering a question,,good luck hope this help,s.More Questions & Answers ...
