What happens if I accidently topped of steering fluid with about an ounce of dot 4 brake fluid?
It could be the universal joint. That's what was wrong with my car when it was doing that same thing. I am not sure how much it cost to fix it at a mechanic but I believe the part runs about $30 - $40 maybe a little more or less. I bought the part and my brothers replaced it for me. So I'm not sure what it would cost for labor.? Re: Fuel Systems in '02 Mercury (Ford) Cougar, 5 speed, 2.0L, 4 cyl.,?

First, check to see if it is really your transmission. Especially if it is Rear Wheel Drive- your driveshaft U joints may be worn, which leads to the "clunking" noise- the tolerances of the U-joint assemblies get worn with time.1995 honda accord ex, radiator got busted, I have some questions?
Or it could be internal in your transmission, a shifting fork or something to that effect could be the issue. Regardless, if it is internal, then find a good transmission shop and ask for an estimate...or find a junkyard and a used transmission.
U-joints will be way cheaper, the cross bearings are around 10 bucks a piece, if I remember correctly. Universal joints will be more, but still a LOT cheaper than transmission work.

The CV joints may be worn out in the drive shaft which some times cause slipage (hence the clunk) when put into gear.Check your motor mounts and/or tranny mounts. Thats what it usually does when one of them are bad. You can check this pretty easy, you just need someone to help you. Have some one set the park brake and hold the brake pedal down and give the engine a little gas, as you whatch the movement in the motor. If you can see alot of movement then a mount(s) are bad..
