Ok do this. First have the linkage checked. It can be the tierod ends and or the stearing linkage.Since it is that old there is a way of tighting the steering box. Her is how.
Look where the shaft enters the steering box.
On top of this box is a nut and a screw.
Loosing the nut and screw the screw down. Then tighten the nut TIGHT
It will help the linkage, but if there is anything else that it will not help.
