Will a 302 tranny out of a pickup bolt up to a 4.6 Mercury motor?

My tranny is out of my 92 Mercury Grand Marquie I was told a 302 tranny out of a pickup truck would bolt up. Does anyone know if this is true.

To answer this question is dependent on the build date of your '92 Grand Marquis. If it is an EARLY build (before March of '92 I think), YES the transmission out of a pickup truck equipped with the 5.0L (302) V8 will work IF IT IS AN AOD transmission. That particular year of engine shared the same bellhousing bolt pattern using SIX bolt holes, and solid dowel pins, with the TWO bolt starter as any other 5.0L (302) V8 equipped models. However, LATER (after March of '92) build versions of the 4.6L V8 that your Grand Marquis is equipped with, started the introduction of the AOD-E. If that is the case, then the answer is NO, the transmission out of a 5.0L (302) V8 equipped truck will NOT bolt up to your vehicle. The LATER '92 to current versions of the 4.6L V8 changed the bellhousing bolt pattern to the SEVEN bolt bellhousing with the HOLLOW dowels, and the THREE bolt starter. The easy way to identify your version is to see if your vehicle has a TV cable connected from the transmission to the throttle body. If it does, you have the AOD. If not, you have the AOD-E. I realize I have just divulged a lot of information, so read my answer VERY carefully. It may save you a lot of money and grief. Hope this helps. E-mail me if you require further info.

i think they will but you might need a bellhousing conversion kit, the 4.6 is the same size as the 302 and i think it has the same bolt pattern. if not its deff a common thing to do so there should be a bellhousing adapter in the aftermarket,

Do some checking around. It will probably fit with the right conversion kits. Check with a salvage yard. They usually have a big book that lists that kind of stuff, or a street rod supplier. They would know for sure if it will work.
